Hiroto Hyakkoku
Student in Japan
Hi! I’m Hiroto from Japan. My academic background is in Computer Science and Bioinformatics.
My research in Bioinformatics contributed to technology that creates scents for 4D movies, and in the future will help you detect diseases by yourself with DNA tool kits.
After graduating from Waseda University in Tokyo, I started working for the Tokyo Stock Exchange, where I’m responsible for the performance and reliability of our system. It’s my job to help prevent trading stoppages like the Nasdaq had with Facebook’s IPO in 2012.
This is actually the second time for me to live in the US, I spent one year in Utah during high school, but this will be the first time for me to be in Texas so I’m really excited to learn about Austin.
At McCombs, I will focus on entrepreneurship and I want to get involved in Venture Lab and MBA+ projects, so I’m excited to start working together with you guys. I have a specialty in tech areas such as Machine Learning, Big Data, Bioinformatics and FinTech like Blockchain, so if you need someone to translate Nerd-speak to understandable MBA-speak, I’M YOUR GUY!!!
My entire career has been with Tokyo Stock Exchange and I will return there after graduation, so I really want to get as much practical experience as possible working with different companies and organizations during my two years here, so I’ll be happy to join your teams.
McCombs has an exchange program with a Japanese MBA school, so if some of you are thinking about doing a semester abroad in Tokyo, I’ll be happy to help you prepare for the experience. Step One: eating sushi and drinking sake in Austin! Did you know there are over 35 sushi restaurants in Austin? I was really excited to find out about that and I’d love to take you guys there.
I’m also excited about the Formula 1 Race coming to Austin on October 23! Of course I also really want to check out Longhorn football and basketball games too. My two years will definitely be busy but I’m really looking forward to learning and growing together with you guys while having a lot of fun.
