Personal Mission Statement:
To see through that young college men to become more accepting and comfortable with topics of mental health and deconstructing the negative stigma around it by way of working in the field of psychology.
Accomplishments and Work Experience:My work experience and accomplishments are incredibly diverse; spanning a wide range of responsibilities. The most notable skillset that I have gained from these experiences has enabled me to become a stronger leader. Ranging from my personal battles with mental health all the way to running an 80-man organization, speaking before 1200 of my peers or running a camp waterfront; I have encountered many obstacles and continue to overcome them.
While I could sit and list off all the positions and jobs I’ve held – one accomplishment stands out above all the rest. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity on two separate occasions to speak on the topic of the stigma of mental health in fraternity settings. I set out with one simple goal, which was to help just one person get help. In the time since I have started this project countless people have approached me to tell me they have either started to see a therapist to get help or they just want to talk to me or ask questions. While I know that I myself may not be able to directly help someone in the moment; I fully have the power to enable people to help themselves. For this reason, I have been successful.
Career Path:
I am going to concentrate on mental health and its stigma in fraternity settings. While this specific career path does not yet exist I am going to bring it to the forefront of attention. By getting involved with the International Headquarters I will be further enabled to engage fraternity men in topics of mental health. Through my fraternity I will foster a constructive, supportive environment for those facing mental health challenges.
