Hmong/Karen(ni) Youth Pride

St. Paul, MN

HKYP is a program within Hmong American Partnership located in St. Paul, MN that supports academic development and provides after-school enrichment classes to children who are academically below grade level, attend a low-performing school, receive free or reduced lunch, are displaying signs of social withdrawal, and/or exhibit signs of behavioral issues. Hmong/Karen(ni) Youth Pride services are available at Community School of Excellence, Jackson Preparatory Magnet Elementary School, Battle Creek Middle School and Bruce Vento Elementary School for students in grades 2-8 during the school year and will be be available at Community School of Excellence during the spring and summer breaks.

The Hmong/Karen(ni) Youth Pride provides enrichment in the areas of: digital literacy, financial literacy, life skills, drug/alcohol prevention, work force skills, leadership development, and health & fitness. HKYP also offers tutoring help with reading, writing, and math.

In an effort to collaborate with parents, tutors go on home-visits to share about the services that HAP provides and discuss their child’s involvement with HKYP (learning work plan).
