Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism announced. “Diagnosed with Breast Cancer, Dropped by Insurer” by Murray Waas of Reuters received the top gold award. A four-month investigation by Reuters and reporter Murray Waas disclosed that WellPoint, had maliciously targeted policyholders only recently diagnosed with breast cancer with the intent to cancel their policies. An exhaustive research of records led to the Murray Waas story.

Reuters’ investigation led to government pressure and industry-wide changes in health-care practices.
