Hoang has a Master's degree in International Business from Curtin University, Western Australia. He has worked in various industries in Vietnam, including natural resources (energy/power, oil & gas, mining), information, telecommunication, and clean technology; higher education; supply chain and logistics; healthcare and pharmaceuticals; fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG); metal fabrication; and, industrial real estate. His areas of expertise include global strategic alliance management, marketing research and analysis, partner screening, trade promotion, and investment matching.

Hoang has advised multinational clients from the US, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, China, and India on direct investment and trade promotion in Asia. He has also worked as a trade analyst and representative for Washington State Department of Commerce; Ohio State Department of Development; and, as a country research analyst for UK-based Euromonitor International on FMCG market research projects in Vietnam. Hoang has also lectured in International Marketing on an English-language program for Curtin University, and Marketing for Vietnam Marcom in Vietnam.

Hoang is the Head of Curtin Alumni chapter in Vietnam and a committee member of Vietnamese Graduates from Australia Club (VGAC) since 2009. He was recognised by the Australian Ambassador in Vietnam for his contribution to the relationship between Australia and Vietnam in 2012.
