My name is Justin Hofstetter; I teach fifth grade at Winnwood Elementary School in North Kansas City, MO

Prior to North Kansas City, I taught at Alta Vista Charter Middle School.

 2012-2013 Sixth Grade PLC Leader

o Organize and run weekly meetings with sixth grade staff, counselors, and administrators to monitor students’ behavioral and academic progress

 2012 Middle School Social Studies Curriculum Lead

o Coordinated with Alta Vista High School teachers to create a cohesive scope and sequence for social studies from grades 6-12

 2013-2014 Mentor for incoming Social Studies staff

 2015-2016 ELA Team Lead and AVMS Leadership Team Member

 In 2015, planned, designed, and opened Alta Vista’s first school library, raising over $5,000 in grants to pay for materials and technology

o Trained students and staff to run library during class times

o Created thematic collections related to cultural celebrations, monthly emphases

(Women’s History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, etc.), and class curriculum

o Developed a culturally-responsive, high interest collection of nearly 3,000 titles

BA - University of Missouri Columbia 2006 (Cum Laude), History and English

 Awarded the 2005 Harvey A. and Nellie K. Deweerd Memorial Teaching Award (University of Missouri Department of History).

 Winner, 2006 Frances W. Kerr Creative Writing Award for Drama for The Lamplight O’er Him Streaming, an original full-length play.

 Selected to attend 2007 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival One Act Play Competition

 Invited to attend 2007 Great Plains Theatre Conference, hosted by Edward Albee; festival included playwriting and theatre workshops with Albee, Will Eno, Emily Mann, and ArthurKopit, as well as a panel discussion consisting of those four playwrights responding to my work

June 2015 invited to present at the National Council of La Raza’s (NCLR) Leadership Institute for Latino Literacy (LILL) in Phoenix, AZ.
