University of Pittsburgh

I currently serve as J.C. Amundson Professor of British History at the University of Pittsburgh. I write about Britain and the British Empire in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, including the histories of visual culture, collecting, and archaeology in relation to political culture, state formation, and empire building. I am also interested in the cultural history of war, violence, and memory and commemoration.

I serve as Editor of the Journal of British Studies, published by Cambridge University Press.

My current book project is a history of violence in the American Revolution and Revolutionary War.
