Holger Ziegeler

Holger Ziegeler, born in Regensburg, Germany, joined the German Foreign Service in 1992. He completed his attaché training in 1993 and was the Consul General at the German Consulate General in Jeddah from 2016 to 2020, before assuming the same position in Karachi.
Holger studied Physics, General Linguistics, Philosophy and Mathematics. Following graduation (from three universities) he was recruited as an Engineer and Manager at Siemens Austria in Vienna in 1987, and he remained in this role until 1992. During his career, Holger has held the position of Deputy Consul General at the Consulate General in Miami, as well as being Head of the Economic Department at the German Embassy in Addis Ababa. He has also been Deputy Head of the Division for Development Policy in the Federal Foreign Office, and between 2016 and 2020 he was the Consul General at the German Consulate and Special Representative for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah. Holger has undertaken a range of diplomatic work in Paraguay, Ethiopia and the United States as part of his consulate duties.
Holger has a key interest in several professional topics, including environmental protection, renewable energy, export promotion and development policy. He cites human development and diplomacy as his key skills.
Holger appreciates listening to and playing classical music, and some of his favorite composers are Beethoven, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev. He is also interested in classic cars and the history of technology, particularly concerning telecommunications technology and the steam engine. Holger enjoys the fine arts and visiting museums and exhibitions when he has the opportunity.
