Dr. Holly Hubbs is currently an Associate Professor of Music at Ursinus College, a small liberal arts college in the Philadelphia suburbs. There she directs the wind and jazz ensembles, teaches single reeds and music history courses. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Hubbs holds music education degrees from Quincy University (Quincy, IL) and Western Illinois University (Macomb, IL), and in 2003 received her Doctor of Arts degree in saxophone performance from Ball State University (Muncie, IN). In spring 2013, Ball State recognized Hubbs with their annual Alumni Achievement Citation.
As a saxophonist, Hubbs has performed in venues in both the United States and Europe and is currently an active recitalist in the Philadelphia area. She has released three CDs: Mosaic Saxophone Quartet, (Arizona University Recordings, 2005) The Music of Kathryne Thompson, (Weston Sound, 2008) and Transcriptions (Weston Sound, 2010). Hubbs' fourth recording, featuring all clarinet transcriptions, is forthcoming in Fall 2013. Also an active scholar, Dr. Hubbs has published articles in the Saxophone Symposium, and presented papers at conferences of the North American Saxophone Alliance, College Music Society, and the American Culture Association.
