Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter ~Francis Chan. A graduate from the University of Cincinnati with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology, I was hired right out of college by a brand new small Animal Hospital. The vision of our team was to offer quality pet care at affordable prices. This included maintaining a low-cost spay-neuter clinic to do our part in reducing pet overpopulation in a humane way. We knew that our clients wanted to properly care for their pets, but they often did not have the knowledge or financial resources to do so. In school I learned many technical skills, but that did not prepare me for the hands-on communication and education skills I received on a daily basis at the Animal Hospital. Our passionate pursuit of excellent caused the company to instantly thrive, driving the admission of several new team members. With this growth came the need for an entirely new set of communication and management skills. I became passionate about the need to increase efficiency and effectiveness through the use of medical software systems, team building, and educational training programs for team members. I enrolled (and am currently enrolled) in the Bachelor’s of Technical and Applied Studies degree program at the University of Cincinnati to learn the finer points of effective communication, team building, workplace writing, business finances, and efficient management. I hope to develop these skills to create an educational, supportive, and effective work environment for our team members as well as a reputable, efficient, and profitable business.
