Rafi Mercado has over 20 years of experience in the film, theatre, Broadway, fashion, commercial, music video and TV industries. As the founding father of HOME (House of Mercado Entertainment), he has conceptualized, produced and directed over 200 thematic events. Rafi’s main focus is on what he believes to be the future of entertainment: “The genre of nightclub theater, the Vaudeville of Tomorrow.”
Rafi holds a Masters degree in Art Direction from New York University, a Bachelors of Science in Film from Boston University and has also studied at L'Université de Grenoble in France.
Several of Rafi’s career highlights include serving as associate costume designer for the Tony Award winning production of Rent on Broadway and as the director of Wickedville, (an erotic version of the Wizard of Oz) which he created for the MGM Grand’s Studio 54 in Las Vegas. Rafi’s work with Wisin y Yandel for the 2006 Latin Grammy Awards also won him an award for Best Segment of the Evening.
Rafi has worked with some of the top names in entertainment, including Sade, Ricky Martin, Jose Feliciano, Marc Anthony and OMD.
His credits as a film director and production designer include the short film 204 (produced by The Ricky Martin Foundation) winner of the Audience Award at Cinefiesta 2010 and Miente, for which he recently won the award for Best Director at the Havana Film Festival in NYC. Miente was ultimately chosen to represent Puerto Rico at the 2010 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Film.
