Hey, my name is Howell Redd Hanson and I was born in Lawton, Oklahoma but however I am also the fifth. As with any name passed down from father to son, it makes you have a little bit of something to prove. Ever since I was a child, I was also held to the expectations that came with being a Howell Hanson. The most important of which was that I was never allowed to say “I can’t” as my family did not believe in people making excuses. This was a very important lesson as a child for me though as it made me believe that anything was possible if you try hard enough. On the other hand, being a fifth is not always the best in some ways as well. One of which is that people expect you to not only act and be like your father but also to follow in his footsteps. For me those footsteps were supposed to lead to the Marines but as a kid I had always dreamed of making something myself to do something positive for the world. Therefore, as a child I had to consistently show my parents that I was meant for more than just being another step in the family tree. This has all lead me to become the third person in my family to go to college and at the great University of Georgia as well.
