I am Hugh Everett, a Toronto lawyer practising criminal defence, civil dispute resolution and injury litigation. Clients often come to me when the stakes are high and the way forward is unclear. My first priority is to understand the facts, identify what can be proven and explain the risks and options.

I approach each matter with structure and discipline. I develop a case theory early, test it against the available evidence and prepare for the possibility of a contested hearing or trial. As new information emerges, I reassess. A sound strategy must be clear enough to guide decisions and flexible enough to respond when circumstances change.

My work includes criminal allegations, commercial and other civil disputes, and claims arising from injuries and accidents. The legal issues differ, but the responsibility to prepare thoroughly and advocate effectively remains the same. I also consider the consequences a matter may have beyond the proceeding itself, including a client’s livelihood, reputation or future care.

I believe clients make better decisions when they understand their position. I aim to provide that clarity, remain focused under pressure and pursue the strongest outcome the evidence and circumstances allow. I value discretion and take seriously the trust clients place in me at difficult moments.
