Hunt Thomas
Student in Athens, Georgia
Hey! My name is Hunt Thomas and I’ve played guitar my whole life… Well, for most of it. I come from a musical family, so by the time I learned how to walk, my parents had already put a guitar in my hands. I started taking lessons when I was five years old and would practice for hours each week. The second I got home from school, I would sprint to my room and strum whatever song I was learning at the time. However, as I got older, my favorite pastime quickly became a chore. My parents would make me sit inside and practice while all of my friends played football and basketball outside. It was for this reason that I burned out and eventually stopped playing in the seventh grade. At first, I was happy to have more free time and didn’t miss playing at all, but freshman year of high I school started going to Widespread Panic concerts with my dad and I started to miss picking the strings of my Fender. It was in that moment that I realized I needed to return to my old ways. The moment I got home from the concert I ran to my room just as I did as a child and finally picked my guitar up again. However, this time around I wasn’t playing for my parent’s sake. It was finally for me. Music has continued to shape my life since then and always will.
