iLab // Haiti
Port-au-Prince, Haiti
iLab // Haiti seeks to contribute digital technology to the resource center at Haiti Communitere (HC), as well as create the space, provide the tools, and teach a framework for design thinking. To date, we have brought two Makerbots and a laptop to HC, and trained over ten Haitians 3D modeling and 3D printing technologies.
We recognize that Haitians know best what Haiti needs. We have found this framework to be valuable, and think they might, too. We are excited to see how the community will choose to leverage these resources and skills.
Potential applications of the technology include 3D printed medical supplies that can be used in local clinics, prototyping ideas, or printing scale models for local architects and engineers. We hope to establish a closed loop system so that spools of plastic can be produced from trash on the streets.
iLab // Haiti is a partnership between Haiti Communitere, KIDmob, and The Blue Marble Movement. Our goal is to provide access to tools for design and fabrication and to teach creative problem solving strategies.
