As a child, I loved knives.
There was something so fascinating about this sharp and shiny object that was so far from my reach--close in sight, yet my tippy toes were not enough to reach the prize. Needless to say, my grandparents kept these knives away from me for good reasons.
For one, I stabbed my cousin with a knife. Well, not literally--it was a butter knife. Not a single memory comes to mind when she tells me these stories, but apparently, I was always cut out to get her. One time, I guess that all the pent-up aggression would give me such creative ideas, so much that I would literally sometimes chase her with a butter knife, screaming “I’m going to stab you!”
To put this in perspective, I wasn’t really your typical child. Sure, I loved watching Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, but what I really enjoyed watching, was this show called Happy Tree Friends. This show consisted of little animated characters who would get their eyeballs chopped, guts ripped out, and overall endure pain for comedic relief. Now this, was my childhood.
Once I discovered my interest in this dark and unethical lens of the world, this is how I grew to develop my love for true crime. From watching tv shows, reading books, and listening to podcasts, I spend a little part of my day indulging in murder mysteries for fun! True crime keeps me on my toes and makes it seem as if I am a part of the story. And from what I have seen so far, I can confidently say that everyone around you could secretly be a murderer. Including me.
