Sydnie Montgomery
Teacher in Dallas, Texas
Education has been highly valued by my family for three generations. I believe given the right amount and correct type of encouragement, anyone can learn. I believe the best way to encourage children to learn is through praise and reward, knowing that rewards are not always monetary and it is the intangible prizes that are usually the most sought after. I want to teach my students that learning isn’t about succeeding after the first try but what happens in between the attempts to succeed.
To be an effective teacher I must incorporate technology in my classroom. Teaching with technology will require myself and my students to work hard to problem solve to complete an assignment or a project. We used to be pride ourselves on being a nation of hard workers. It is through hard work and the application of knowledge and understanding that we gain wisdom. I want my students to never shy away from what they want because it requires hard work. As Thomas Edison said, “We often miss opportunity because it’s dressed in overalls and looks like work.”
I am a student of life, a mover of pixels, a crafter of words, a visual teller of stories, an educator, the daughter of my parents, the sister to my brothers, but most of all I Am Just Syd.
