Kratom is a tropical evergreen tree of the coffee family. It is native to Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and other South Asian countries.

The seeds, or extracts from the trees, have been used as a stimulant and as a sedative. This has also been documented for the treatment of chronic pain, digestive disorders, and for the elimination of opium dependence.

Nevertheless, there have not been enough clinical trials to better explain the health effects of kratom. It has also not been licensed for medical use.
