Welcome to my 'about me' page. I doubt anyone will read this as we all live in a facebook world. However I think that everyone should have a place of their own where they are not forced into watching videos of cats, kids, car crashes or reading narrow minded political views.
So as it is called about me, I guess I better elaborate.
I am 40 years old and live in the Netherlands with my wife. I work as a Rescue Consultant for a company who make hydraulic rescue equipment; the stuff firefighters use to cut you out of your car if you are unfortunate enough to crash it. I was a firefighter for 19 years and I lived and worked in Cheshire, United Kingdom. I am originally form Liverpool but not lived there for some time.
I was offered my current job in 2011 and made the difficult decision to leave a superb career (and country) and relocate to the Netherlands, a wonderful place with great people.
I joined the fire service in 1992 and in 2005 I became an instructor and specialised in vehicle extrication; cutting people out of cars, both the technical and medical aspects of it. Since then I have given up as much of my professional and personal time to become as knowledgeable in the subject as possible. My hard work was rewarded in 2011 when Holmatro, the world leaders in the industry offered me a job. Leaving the fire service was a tough call, but it was an opportunity I could not refuse. Since 2011 I have been fortunate enough to travel to nearly 100 countries and share knowledge with fire fighters and rescuers on every continent. I also wrote my first book on the subject
Outside of work I have one passion. Music.
Music is without doubt, the most important thing in my life (family aside). I have played guitar and drums since a young age and continue to do so on a daily basis. Having played in bands for years I now play for pleasure and have a recording studio at home. I love collecting guitars and if i am not playing, watching or listening to music I am generally asleep.
I have never called myself a musician and often get frustrated at the fact that my 30 year love affair with the guitar has not resulted in me being a virtuoso. I should be better than I am, but my talent is what it is.
I have a wide range of musical taste but if I had to nail it down I would have to say my heart lies in 1960's and 1970's rock music. Only contemporary music which has solid roots in that era holds any interest for me.
