Ian Gardiner

Houston, TX

An experienced engineer, Ian Gardiner has worked with numerous clients in the international oil and gas sectors in consultancy capacities over the past three decades. Ian Gardiner notably served for five years as Pipeline Engineering Manager for the Chevron Angola LNG Deepwater Project. In this capacity, he directed a project team in designing and completing an Angolan offshore gas gathering pipeline network.

As part of the Angola LNG project, Mr. Gardiner undertook an in-depth quantitative risk assessment of land portions of the project and supervised pipeline design. He also assisted in the preparation of environmental, social, and economic impact assessments and prepared necessary applications for licenses and permits from the Angolan government. The project presented a major technical challenge, as pipelines running to deepwater oil fields required engineering to comfortably withstand pressures as high as 340 bar.

From 1998 to 2004, Mr. Gardiner held responsibilities as a Subsea Facilities Engineer with Shell Deepwater Services in Houston, TX, and Lagos, Nigeria. As Pipeline Engineer in the development of the Bonga oil field, he facilitated the design and construction of risers and pipelines and coordinated the efforts of distinct project groups in pipeline, drilling, downhole equipment, subsea equipment, and reservoir functions. He also served as Offshore Manager, overseeing activities of the project's marine construction contracting partner.

A native of the United Kingdom, Ian Gardiner completed his B.S. in Civil Engineering at Heriot-Watt University. He is a Chartered UK Engineer and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects UK. He volunteers twice a month with Goodwill Industries International, as a jobs counselor for the unemployed.
