Ian McHenry
Currently an entrepreneur in San Francisco, Ian McHenry graduated from Princeton University in 2005 with a degree in politics. Deeply involved in various leadership activities and sports while at Princeton, Ian McHenry continues to make an impact post-graduation and has held several positions in the finance and consulting field over the past six years. While still at university, Ian McHenry managed an independent business handling marketing, sales, and delivery for major national newspapers. Showing business prowess, he successfully increased the operating margin from 15% to 20% over his 4 years running the company. While operating the Campus Newspaper Delivery Agency, Ian McHenry maintained an exemplary GPA, worked as a Trip Leader and Climbing Wall Staff for Princeton University Outdoor Action, and competed as a middle-distance runner for Princeton University Track and Field during his freshman year.
Immediately following graduation, Ian McHenry went into investment banking, spending nearly a year with Raymond James Financial, Inc. in Florida as an analyst before making the transition to the West Coast and working for Deutsche Bank in San Francisco. While there, his position as an Investment Banking Analyst in the Technology Group included working on client pitches in capital markets and serving as the lead analyst on an attempted initial public offering for a high-growth semiconductor company. In early 2007, Ian McHenry made the switch to working in management consulting with Oliver Wyman Group, a top-tier international firm. Ian McHenry’s role as a Consultant included business design, project management, market analysis, and financial restructuring for various businesses, primarily in the commercial aviation industry.
Ian McHenry’s next position, as Program Associate for the One Acre Fund in Kenya, drew on both his financial acumen and experience in all aspects of strategic business design. The One Acre Fund is a microfinance program recognized and funded in part by organizations such as the Skoll Foundation. A keen traveler, Ian McHenry has skippered the S/V Air Gadis around much of Southeast Asia since his term with One Acre Fund ended in August 2010. Remaining a committed climber and surfer, Ian McHenry finds the time to pursue these interests while traversing the globe.
