Immanuel Chiete is a self-taught visual artist from Namibia. He grew up in the capital city Windhoek and later move to Oranjemund, were he discovered and pursued his passion for art despite the limited access to formal education. Financial challenges prevented further studies after Grade 12, but Immanuel remained committed to developing his skills independently.

In 2020 - 2022, he was working in the mine (SCM MA1) as a spotter at the age of 24, but later resigned to pursue art full-time, launching IAS – Imms Art Studio, trading as IASS HUB. Since then, he has created commissioned portraits, murals, and provided basic art education to children, making art both a livelihood and a platform for connection.

Working with oil paints, pastel chalk, and acrylics, Immanuel has cultivated a unique style that explores themes of spirituality, hope, and emotional expression. His oil landscapes celebrate the beauty and tranquility of the Namibian environment, while his pastel work often reflects personal experiences and inner emotions.

A key moment in his artistic journey came during the 2023 Beakers Bay Artist Retreat, hosted by OMDis and Namdeb. There, he produced a deeply personal series inspired by his time in the mines. The resulting exhibition, titled Reimagining, marked his transition from miner to full-time artist and shared a story of resilience and transformation. Press to watch

Immanuel’s work has been featured alongside prominent Namibian artists such as Nicky Marais and Aurelia Sieberhagen in Oranjemund. He believes every artist draws their own audience through authenticity, and he remains committed to growing his presence both locally and internationally. Through collaborative projects and cultural storytelling, Immanuel hopes to inspire others—especially those facing adversity—to believe in their talents and follow their creative.
