Dr. Ibisime Etela is, currenty, the Director, Institute of Agricultural Research and Development (http://iard-uniport.blogspot.com), University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He is also a lecturer with the Department of Animal Science and Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture. Dr. Etela was the Head, Department of Animal Science and Fisheries between 2010 and 2012 before assuming duty as Director from September 2012 till date. He holds a doctorate degree in Animal Science from the University of Benin, Nigeria, and both his masters and bachelors degrees also in Animal Science from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu, Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

He specialized in ruminant nutrition and production with special interest in the nutritional evaluation of locally available feed resources, their utilization by ruminant livestock and feed quality prediction using near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) under resource-poor crop/livestock systems, at least cost. His recent research works focused on utilization of spent mushroom substrates, groundnut and cowpea crop residues by sheep, and sweet potato crop residues by calves/lactating cows using improved crop varieties that are important food/feed crops in Nigeria and other sub-Saharan Africa.

Between December 2007 and May 2008, he was a visiting researcher to the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada on ACU Titular Fellowship awarded by the Association of Commonwealth Universities, London, United Kingdom. Dr. Etela is a Registered Animal Scientist as a member of the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS). He is also a member of the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) and the Nigerian Socitey of Animal Production (NSAP). Dr. Etela has published over 30 refereed journal articles, 16 refereed conference papers, and one book chapter.
