Ivette Carrillo
I was born and raised in the town of Cicero, Illinois. I am the youngest of five children. I attended public schools my whole life. When I was thirteen me and my family moved to South Holland, Illinois. I attended Thornwood High School for three years. When I was seventeen we moved to Lansing, Illinois. I attended and graduated from Thornton Fractional South High School. On April, 2011 I received the Golden Apple Scholarship. I was inducted on April 9, 2011 alng side other new scholars from around the state of Illinois. The Golden Apple journey began on June of 2011. I moved into DePaul University feeling like a lost puppy. My shiness made it difficult, like always, to fit in with the others. Luckily I made friends and spent the rest of the summer with amazing adventures. We went everywhere from Navie Pier, Millenium Park, and Lincoln Park Zoo. Chicago became our playground and we became children eager to explore it. On August I left home headed for Illinois State University. It was a scary yet exciting moment because I did not know what to expect. The first couple of weeks were smooth but, as the semester progressed things started to go downhill. It was overwhelming and I could not handle it anymore. That is why I decided to leave ISU. I attended South Suburban College for the Spring semester. In April of 2012 I got accepted to Saint Xavier University. Then before I knew it, I was packing my things to head back to DePaul for the summer. I was not nervous this time because I knew that I had people that I can count on. This summer has been going on extremelly well and I can not wait to see what the future has in store for me.
