Idalia Cervantes
DeKalb, Illinois
I am a student at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb majoring in English & Spanish and getting certified to teach at the Secondary Education level. I am a current intern at the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute, a nonprofit organization led by Dr. Juan Andrade. Even though I am young I have dedicated my whole life serving others. I am truly passionate about issues affecting Latinos in the United States...it is all about helping our brothers & sisters. You can always find me doing something new! I love meeting people, attending leadership conferences, or simply going to a museum and learning. I take everyday as a lesson, there goes no day I don't learn something new. However, even though I am a pretty social person, I also like to spend a lot of time on my own writing. I absolutely love to write and I believe my sole purpose in this world is to teach others the love for writing. It is one of the most beautiful privileages we have and we should not take it for granted. It is the only way a person can leave a legacy..by writing; their dreams, their hopes, or even dissapointments. Writing allows us to leave our name in this world and if people don't remember us by how kind we were to them, they can remember us by the writings we leave behind.
