Ignacio Bautista

Student in Bellingham, Washington

My name is Ignacio Bautista-Sanchez, I was born in Veracruz, Mexico and lived my entire life in the States. I enjoy the simple things in life the first smell and taste of morning coffee, receiving mail that isn't a bill, popping bubble wrap, taking off your shoes when I get home, waking up on a rainy day and realizing I have no responsibilities. These small little things we forget to appreciate is what I live for.

I am currently enrolled at Western Washington University for my B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Communication Studies. I have volunteered in various organizations, such as Head Start, Habitat for Humanity, St. Johns Peace Health, and Multicultural club. I enjoy volunteering because I am providing vital help to people in need and helping my community prosper. My goal for the near future is acquiring a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and working as a mental health professional.

I started working at New Westside Terrace in March 2011 as a Nursing Assistant Registered & Med-Aid/Med Tech. At the age of 17, I was the youngest employee and had to overcome the stigma of being a “kid”. I believe the truth is people underestimate me because of my age. It wasn’t too long of working hard to complete all my tasks in record time while assisting others with their work, that I was noticed by my superiors and promoted. Being young granted me traits unavailable to my older coworkers. I had more energy to spare, which allowed me to work longer hours. I was also committed to efficiency by prioritizing my work I was able to produce quality work consistently. Working here I learned to take on new task and to stay focused on the long-term goal ahead of me.
