Igor Shulman

Igor Shulman (Igor Andrianov, 1959–2026) was a contemporary figurative painter based in Prague, Czech Republic. His work combined elements of realism, impressionism and expressive painting, with a particular interest in people, everyday life, movement, and atmosphere.

Photography also played an important role in Shulman's approach to composition. His paintings often use unusual cropping, viewpoints, and moments that resemble the visual language of photography. The influence of Edgar Degas, Monet can sometimes be seen in his treatment of movement and composition, but Shulman developed these influences into a distinct personal style rather than simply following another artist’s manner.

Igor Andrianov was born on 28 February 1959 in Russia. He graduated from the A. G. Venetsianov Art College in Tver in 1984, specializing in interior design. After graduating, he worked in his profession while continuing to develop his painting and participated in regional and republican exhibitions.

In 1999, he moved to Prague, where he continued his career as an independent artist under the name Igor Shulman, the name under which he signed his paintings and became known internationally.

Igor Shulman died on 7 May 2026, aged 67. His paintings remain in private collections and have been exhibited and collected in Europe, the United States and other countries. His work is now preserved and documented through the Igor Shulman Art Archive.
