Modal fabrics were first treated in Japan in the year 1951 and were first marketed in 1964. Modal has become very popular and is highly wanted by every textile buyer, leading to a

What are the characteristics of Modal?

There are a number of characteristics for modal which we have earlier mentioned that makes it such a great fabric. These characteristics are:

Very soft to feel: modal is a very soft fabric and when touched, it tends to give a feel of silk and wool.

Crease resistant: Modal is resistant to creasing. This is due to high quality processes it has undergone. You can imagine the beauty of a light weight fabric that does not crease,

right?

Silky: Silkiness is also another good property of modal. These fabrics are smoothest to feel and they barely cause any form of uncomfortable feeling.

Absorbent and Air-Permeable: Modal absorbs and lets air pass through it easily. This makes it breathable. In modal fabrics, heat is barely felt. This also explains why it is

constantly cool when touched.

Dye Suitability: This fabric works brilliantly with dye. That is, it soaks dye easily, thereby bringing forth bright, sparkling colors when dyed.

Shrinkage resistance: Modal has less resistant to shrinking than cotton. Consequently, it does not pill much because of the strength of the fibers it has been made with.

How to take proper care of modal

Modal is similar to cotton materials in many ways and hence, the guidelines for cleaning cotton can be followed to clean it. Modal is suitable for washing in any level of

temperature. The water temperature does not matter when washing modal. This is another advantage that it has over other fabrics. However, it is advisable to check the special

instructions that come with the fabric.
