While living in downtown Charleston,
seemingly luminous and oftentimes
lofty states of mind
evoked my artistry.
Before so,
I had fallen into what resembled a standstill
in which creativity and wonder had ceased.
At moments like this,
I find it apt to immerse myself in what pleases the soul
as well as sparks the unimagined
– a rejuvenation of the mind and body -
that is which ephermeral and visceral.
Drawn to their raw beauty,
awestruck at the mere intricacy displayed in their unique
shapes and bewildering designs,
I was inspired by their profound individuality.
I have come to view sea shells as sacred creations of this earth,
here to inspire and remind us of what is and what was.
Reassuring objects,
they radiate stability and patience in the gentleness of
stillness.
My work with sea shells
is to illuminate their features and through doing so,
I have developed an unforeseen admiration for them.
I feel as though each sea shell has a story to tell
- and this,
cultivates sheer compassion in me.
Mystified by this very influence,
these inanimate objects have seemingly captured my affection
and spawned my passion for unifying art with nature.
Utilizing driftwood,
hemp,
and sea shells
of Charleston’s very own shorelines,
I weave mobiles that have proven to ignite awe and wonder in
their observers.
To inspire and motivate is what resonates with my soul
and thus is the - motif - behind it's craft.
