Currently Associate professor at Northwestern University in Qatar, I hold a PhD in Communication Studies and a Master degree in Communication Studies from the University of Montreal, Canada as well as a graduate degree in Marketing and a Bachelor degree in Business Administration.

At Northwestern University in Qatar, I teach courses in the journalism program, in Public Relations and Integrated Marketing Communications. My teaching philosophy is to promote autonomous learning of students. Eternal learner myself, I encourage students to be independent in their own learning experience.

My research focuses on the social integration of new media in the Arab region, as well as the evolution and development of the media and communications industry in the MENA region. In 2007, I have launched the Emirates Internet Project (EIP) that is a member partner of the World Internet Project (USC). It enabled me to understand the social adoption of the Internet in the UAE, follw the trends and patterns of new media usage, and grasp the changes in the political economy of the Internet in the UAE as well as Internet governance in the Arab region. In addition to my interest in Advertising and public relations in the Arab region, I am interested in the mediated political and social transformations in the Arab region, more particularly the Tunisian uprising case.

Previous consultation mandates include market analysis and marketing communications as well as Internet related research for businesses and academia. I have published academic journal articles, book-chapters and I am currently working on two book projects. In conferences, I have presented among others work about the advertising industry in the Arab region, the social integration of the Internet in the Arab region, the Arab youth bloggers, the content analysis of Arabic popular websites, Advertising and Arab popular culture as well as the ongoing social and political transformations in the Arab region. I have contributed to a number of forums and congresses, I was invited and talked in several events among which the Abu Dhabi Media Summit, the United Nations for the Alliance of Civilizations Forum, and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Arab-German Media Dialogue. I serve and have served on editorial board of academic journals and as a reviewer for different academic journals. When not working, I love reading, spinning and discovering new places...
