Illinois has a big problem with illicit drug use. The fact that 70,378 people needed to seek help from an Illinois drug rehabilitation treatment center in 2009 demonstrates the enormity of the issue very well. Obviously, not everyone who has a drug problem seeks help for their addictions, and other statistics show that Illinois drug rehabilitation is a very necessary service.

In 2006, 112,368 people were arrested on drug charges. Because of all of these arrests, the state needed to increase its number of drug courts. As of 2007, Illinois had plans to add eight more drug courts to its already existent 10, and the problem does not appear to be decreasing quickly. Just one example is the 778 methamphetamine labs that were reported in 2007. The problem continued to grow with a nine percent increase in methamphetamine lab seizures in 2009.
