Before opening his own practice, Ilyas Munshi studied computer science at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he earned a nearly perfect grade point average and received the National Engineering Consortium Award. After graduating, Ilyas Munshi went on to earn his M.D. at Rush Medical College in Chicago. With the intention of honing his skills in the area of neurosurgery, he then took his talents to The University of Chicago, where he completed his residency. During this period, Dr. Munshi honed his clinical, diagnostic, and surgical skills, which would serve him well in his career as a neurosurgeon. He also had the opportunity to contribute to articles that were subsequently published.

Today, Ilyas Munshi runs his own private practice, where he assists patients with conditions such as pituitary tumors, epilepsy and seizures, and adult and pediatric brain tumors. Dr. Munshi also helps those in need of complex spinal surgery and instrumentation; computer-assisted, image guided surgery; and minimally invasive surgery.
