Imaad Majeed is a 26 year old poet, rapper and singer-songwriter.

Their work tends to focus on sociopolitical issues, often making commentary on current affairs or exhuming historical blunders.

They are the curator of Kacha Kacha, an underground gig that features poets, rappers and singer-songwriters performing in Sinhala, English and Tamil, in Colombo. Sri Lanka's CBD.

They are a regular of the Poetry P'lau collective that gathers at Hansa Cafe every first Saturday of the month, as well as the fortnightly Open Brain session by Stageless Arts.

They are the former publisher of the Annasi & Kadalagotu series of chapbooks that is currently out of print, yet still in circulation, sporadically dispersed amidst Colombo's burgeoning independent publishing scene.

Their poetics have evolved from free-verse to conceptual poetry, having studied contemporary and modern American poets through a massively open online course offered by University of Pennsylvania, conducted by Al Filreis.

Their spoken word performance of Thambivamsa, in the form of a YouTube video hashtagged #selfierap, was screened at the 46th North East Modern Language Association (neMLA) convention, in 2015, during the panel discussion “The Migrating Word”, co-chaired by Arun Nedra Rodrigo, as an example of ‘diasporic writing’, calling out to an imagined community by defying state constructs.

They have performed alongside the Chamber Music Society of Colombo, under the artistic direction of Lakshman Joseph De Seram, as a vocal artist, for their rendition of Terry Riley’s In C at Colomboscope 2014.

They have performed under the direction of Dutch experimental theatre provocateur Dries Verhoeven in Lifestreaming, performing to audiences at the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT), Germany and Netherlands, over a webcam and chat interface, while based in Narigama, Hikkaduwa.

Most recently, they have been part of the Eternal Internet Brotherhood/Sisterhood, a nomadic artist residency that hosted The Noospheric Society at documenta 14's public programme. They also presented said event to the audience at the Parliament of Bodies, in the historic Fridericianum, Kassel, Germany.
