Why a granny knot? Knots tie things together; like love ties a heart to a heart to feed the soul.

Much of my childhood was spent on my grandparent's farm. It was a world away from Calgary, Alberta, and hard work was a way of life on the "family farm". Everything my grandparents did was tied into caring for and feeding the family. Food wasn't just something that was consumed to maintain life. Food was love.

My grandmother instilled in me at a young age the love of cooking. Her garden provided the ingredients, limited only by my chores in that garden. My own garden, tiny by comparison, still provides me with that sense of caring and love. That is my granny knot.

This background is something I want to share with others. My interest in gardening, in cooking, and in food are topics I want to write about, to photograph, and to pass on. When I started taking courses towards the technical and business writing certificate at the University of Calgary, I never thought it would take me toward a creative endeavor.
