Hi everyone.

My name is Iman and I’m a newly certified teacher from Toronto. I have a Masters of Science in Education and am certified to teach both in Ontario and New York state. I just finished my first year teaching working abroad at a private school in Dubai. I taught 5th and 6th grade Science and taught 4 different classes.

A challenge that I faced was creating an effective classroom management system especially when the other subject teachers had different management styles. It took me a long time to deal with students bringing other teachers rules into my classroom and I know some colleagues faced the same problem. We tried to come up with some shared management strategies, but it wasn't really effective. I would like to learn strategies for creating an effective management plan in the classroom that can always be in place regardless of what happens in other classrooms. Also if there are management styles that can help increase student autonomy in the classroom.
