I love listening to people’s stories, where they have been, where they are going and how their life has shaped them. Looking back on my life I can see this developed because I felt I was different and not accepted for who I was. Growing up I was overweight and in the minority. I remember how the comments made me feel as though I didn’t fit in. I can see how this has shaped me and helped me develop an appreciation and understanding that everyone is unique and has something to offer. I accept people for who they are, without judgement and this is why people confide in me, sharing their hopes, dreams, troubles and concerns.
People tell me one of the things they like about me is they know where they stand with me. What you see is what you get. Recently, when talking with my mother, she reminded me of this, telling me she used to love when I went clothes shopping with her. I would be honest and tell her how she looked, giving her confidence when she wore those clothes. I don’t believe in beating around the bush, I would rather be upfront, deal with things and move on.
I have always been fascinated with nature and nowadays I satisfy this when I am at home in my gardens. My gardens motivate me because they are a challenge. A puzzle that constantly changes, requiring solutions. I love the thrill of coming up with solutions to puzzles. When I was focussed on losing weight, I saw this as a challenge to solve. Coming up with a solution I realised I just needed a balance.
This is true in all aspects of life - you just need to find the balance that works for you. Today, I live life constantly trying to get the right balance. Juggling business, family and self-time is a challenge and I need to accept the balance will never be perfect. There are days I get it right and days I just need a sounding board to clear my head so I can move forward.
If you feel life is passing you by at times, you are not alone. There are many of us that can relate. Take action, talk to someone.
