Independent Lake Camp

Situated in the picturesque country of the Pocono Mountains north of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Independent Lake Camp offers an exciting and educational summer camp experience for boys and girls ages 6 to 17. Unlike other summer camps, Independent Lake Camp does not focus on any one theme or activity area. Instead, the program appeals to children through a broad spectrum of activities, ranging from performing arts to extreme sports.

Independent Lake was established a quarter-century ago by Dan and Anne Gould, industrious parents with 10 children that they wanted to keep active during the summer. Uninspired by the summer camps they looked into, the Goulds founded their camp to meet their own criteria of how a summer camp should operate. Today, the Wayne County, Pennsylvania-based program offers sessions in a variety of lengths (2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks). Each session is limited to a manageable population of campers, ensuring that everyone gets to participate and encouraging greater teamwork and cooperation.
