KDM 39th anniversary
Posted on 06/05/2011 by Yossa

In 2011, KDM reached the age of 39 as it was founded on 25th January 1972. We celebrated this anniversary last 29th January at our centre of Pondok Gede.

The celebration was prepared by all staff and children. A few weeks before, the kids were given various tasks such as cooking, prepare a performance and an exhibition, etc. We also invited the other members of KDM family to join us: friends, volunteers and donators were expected to attend the event.

When the day came, the guests were invited to write their birthday wishes to KDM on a small card we had previously prepared. Then this recycled paper card was hung on a tree. In the pendopo we displayed some products and activities, and also introduced the internship program to our guests. The products on display were all the results of KDM children skill classes: recycling paper, compost production, snacks cooking, computer presentations. We also served welcome drinks and traditional snacks made by the children.

The performance began with a brief pantomime drama telling the story about a nice humble man—representing the founder of KDM—who was inviting street children to live with him in a place called KDM. Then, all of us watched a short movie about the milestones of KDM history; this movie was made by a teenager called Yossa. It was followed by the launching of KDM website and a violin performance by M. Martin and his students Nando, Nuel and Abi.

Finally, it was time for the birthday celebration and the most awaited moment by the children: lunch time! We kids were eager to have everybody try the delicious dishes we had made. There was gurame fish, soto ayam and fried catfish. The guests really enjoyed the cuisine we had prepared by our own.

Through this event, we were highly motivated to do our best to improve ourselves for the future. We opened our eyes, our ears and our minds to make this place a more useful place for the children who need to be here.
