INGRID HERTFELDER
New York & Los Angeles
It seems unlikely that a young girl born and raised in a small town in Southern Germany would end up living in New York and Los Angeles immersed in the vibrant worlds of jazz music and portrait photography. Growing up with a classical music background, a starring role in her high school brass brand, and rigorous training in theatre arts and analysis, Ingrid studied at SCAD in Savannah, GA after interning at Jazz at Lincoln Center. She has steadily built a career in the music and portrait world, shooting stills and now motion for music labels, PR companies, and magazines.
Whether she is shooting commercial, editorial, or fine art work, Ingrid brings the same avid, poetic point-of-view to her photographs and studies of well-known musicians, artists, and communities. Her long form projects include Dear New Orleans, a broad and nostalgic look at the roots of jazz, and the hardships and culture of this romantic city; The Gift of Music Sessions, a collaboration with New York’s Jazz Gallery to benefit those affected by the 2011 Japanese tsunami; and Homeland, an intimate exploration looking back at the German town where she was raised.
