Invisible Children
The Invisible Children is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to stop the longest running war in Africa. It’s a 23 year long war between a rebel army called the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda (GoU) that has affect millions of people Their mainly focus on restoring peace to the families that have been affect by the war in Uganda. As they stated “We believe that the problems of central Africa need to be tackled comprehensively, from peace to education. Solving them is no easy task, and it will take all of us doing all that we can do to ensure it” (InvisibleChildren.com).
Joseph Kony soon would go to capture young men and force them to become soldier. This process from boy to soldier or to death machine is vividly described in Ishmael Bay book, though Ishmael was from Sierra Leone the methods were similar. In response to that the Ugandan government evicted thousands from their homes and sent them to camps in order for protection. Protecting suddenly turned into decades of poverty, disease, and starvation.
From then there has been countless peace agreements that Joseph Kony fail to sign. He has showed everyone that he willing continue to cause havoc and disrupt the government. LRA attacks are very frequent and many families are being literally ripped apart. Innocent people are being brutally killed, people homes are being burnt and a countless horrific crimes are being done to not only boys recruited as child soldier and not only to families but to the entire country.
The Invisible Children started when three film makers travel to Africa in search of a story and came back with a film after witnessing a horrific scene and also being touch by it. They made a filmed called “Invisible Children: Rough Cut”, a documentary that showed the tragedy of northern Uganda’s night commuters and child soldiers. “We are storytellers. We are visionaries, humanitarians, artists, and entrepreneurs. We are individuals’ part of a generation eager for change and willing to pursue it. A nonprofit organization working to transform apathy into activism” (Invisible Children).
They are very passionate and they have proven to get results. The night commuters I mentions were kids who walked many miles to go to sleep in fear of being abducted by Joseph Kony. Many protest including a crowd of over 80,000 in the year of 2006 who slept outside along with the night commuters force our governmen
