Twenty years ago, before Takanini Feeds was founded, there was a lack of top-quality animal feeds in New Zealand. Stockpiling was also very common then, which affected the health of farm animals and consumers as well. Iran Forsdyke, a mere merchant then, wanted to change the way animal feeds are manufactured. This idea led him to establish a partnership with Neil Burndred, a large grain, seed and farmer supplies merchant in New Zealand. This would later become Takanini Feeds, the manufacturer of the famed Chook Chow and Layer Pellets, and a wide variety of animal feeds.

Fresh and nutritious feed promotes the health and growth of animals. But more than that, animals, whether they are raised for livestock or groomed for racing, deserve to be fed ethically. At Takanini Feeds, we only produce natural and healthy animal feed with no added hormones or antibiotics.

We guarantee that each batch ofanimal feed is manufactured on demand in our two plants, the Takanini and Mangatawhiri silos. We have traditional pellet feeds and a diverse range of feeds for poultry, dairy cattle and horses that meet specific health requirements to maximise growth.

Our signature poultry products, Chook Chow and Layer Pellets, are always the freshest chicken feed available in the NZ market as we only manufacture upon order. As part of our advocacy to serve the community, our products are made from locally sourced ingredients. Takanini Feeds actively supports local schools and community sports groups and events. We have been in the business for 20 years now and have since established trusting relationships with local farmers, pasture managers and elite sport enthusiasts.
