First of all, welcome to my "about.me" site, and thank you for taking your time to read my self-introduction! My name is Irene, I help people sharing their stories through translation and interpretation. I’m a location-independent freelance-translator/interpreter, online-marketeer and blogger.
I grew up within three Northern European cultures, thus I've always been fascinated by foreign languages and by the idea of exploring contacts between different cultures. I'm fluent in 4 languages, able to have confident conversations in 2 others. It wasn't until after I'd visited 30+ countries and 6 continents that I stopped counting. In addition to being a tourist, I have also worked, lived and/or studied in 7 countries across 3 continents and I've often participated in work-related travel commitments. As a lifelong "trans-cultural individual", I continue to enjoy a global lifestyle.
I’m very appreciative of the value of cultural exchange, living a productive life, being a citizen of the world, engaging in lifelong learning in a continually changing society. For me it's no different when it comes to travels. So, even if I feel like I've already ticked plenty off my bucket list, there's still much more to explore; whether road trippin' or simply taking a hike in nature.
Something which goes back to my Nordic upbringing, is my emphasis on maintaining work-life balance and I value the importance of both healthy lifestyle and balanced relationships ― whether they are friendships,
family or workplace relationships.
Being a self-disciplined person I've always had a tremendous desire to further my learning and gain experience in a variety of areas; one of the reasons why I continued studying beyond College-degree and combined University Studies with employment. I served my first years after graduating, in the creative industries as a Graphic Designer, but since moved onto various other fields. Having been a "white-collar" professional over the past several years, I'm well-acquainted with a variety of organizations, incl. ad agencies, small to medium-sized enterprises, and Fortune 500 business corporations.
Personally, I prefer to treat freelancing as a side-project; my main focus is full-time wage employment, reaching my career goals while aiming at significantly contributing to both personal and organizational success.
