Woah! This was out of date. I reside in Phoenix and am seeking a flexible work arrangement. (Working remotely and/or the ability to specify my hours.)

My experience is in software product management. I'm excellent at driving vision, planning and coordinating folks. I fell into the world of IT by accident. After graduating from a wonderful school in the mid-west (Ohio!) I eagerly sought an entry level advertising role in NYC.

Alas the newbie pay is terrible. As I really didn't want to live with three roommates I sought employment elsewhere. Goldman Sachs generously offered me a peon position on their Fixed Income trading floor. Through random chance my role was in an e-commerce group. (Really that meant we built non-transactional websites.)

I laugh now when I tell the story of how GS hired me after thirteen interviews. (Thirteen!) My pre-screen testing assured everyone I could type (yep) and use Power Point incredibly well. That last skill has opened more doors than I could ever imagine. It turns out learning new drawing software isn't that hard.

Pre-dot com I had no idea I was designing interfaces and learning information architecture. Our bomb-diggity developers embraced electronic "pictures" of white boarding discussions. It seemed like a no brainer to document and was easy.

Drawing websites and negotiating features over things like cost, time and resources was fun. What I enjoyed the most was saying, "What? I don't understand. What happens next? Why are we doing it that way?" Being so naive to the politics of structured organizations I was comfortable asking these kind of questions.

I've had the great fortune to work with a wide variety of industries. It's the same process everywhere:

Don't build things that don't make sense. Communicate.

With that in mind, here's what I want, maybe you can help.

  • I want to work with nice people.
  • I want time to exercise
  • I want time to write
  • I want flexibility to travel while working

Phoenix is awesome. When the rest of the U.S. is freezing we go swimming here. It's not overcast and grey so it's fun to get out and DO THINGS. Come July Phoenix turns into AN OVEN. (If you've been, you know exactly what I'm talking about.)

Ping me if you're looking for an inquisitive, quirky person who tells the most ridiculous stories. I promise I can make you laugh!
