Isaac Mokoana

I was a student at Allanridge Secondary School situated in an area called Rabie Ridge situated in Region A around Midrand. I was a student there from 2008-2012 in which I completed all my high school grades at, that is, grades 8-12.

In 2010, I was fortunate to be part of a pilot programme called ADT Teach. It is an innovative computer education programme designed to provide township learners with the IT skills necessary for the job market and their tertiary studies. The curriculum covers the learning objectives of the nationally recognised IT Certificate in End User Computing provided by the South African Services Skills Education Training Authority. Successful Grade 10 learners progress to Grade 11 and if they make it again they progress to Grade 12 and graduate with a national certificate. Therefore, in November 2012 I graduated with National Certificate in End User Computing.

I am currently a third year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) student in Senior and FET teaching at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). I major in Mathematics for Senior and FET, and Physical Sciences for FET phase. Mathematics and physical science education are my passion. I discovered that it brings me great satisfaction to see learners learn something new and develop in knowledge through my teaching. I therefore aim to develop academically, socially and spiritually to be able to be the best teacher I can be, and that is by making my learners realise their true potential and perform to the best of their abilities.

My interest lies in developing, not only the group of learners I would be exposed to through my teaching but the parents, community and country’s mindset towards Mathematics and Sciences. I believe with great exposure to innovative teaching strategies and continuous motivation and encouragement, learners can become the best learners they can be.

I am also a coach for Numeric which is a South African non-profit company interested in using technology to create exciting and stimulating learning environments.Numeric includes a small team of friendly people who are on a mission to help young South Africans excel in maths. In addition, I am also currently part of the UJ Let’s Go To Glory Campus Ministry Committee, as an Evangelist officer.
