There are many misconceptions about acting, actors, and civilians who fancy the idea of becoming an actor. Many trained and untrained actors will tell you that they love acting because they enjoy becoming someone else. I subscribe to the notion that acting is beautiful because it provides oneself an avenue to become more of who you are. Eric Morris (acclaimed author and acting coach) defines “being” as “the behavioral state in which you are comfortable allowing yourself to feel and express all emotions impulsively, doing no more nor less than what you feel.” For me, acting has become not just a career goal, but a way of life. I challenge myself to live everyday through my five senses, to accept that every emotion is beautiful and to take in the world around me without dismissal. I understand that for each project I am cast in, that character is already a visceral part of who I am, whether I knew she was there or not. Film and theatre is so fascinating because it takes the human experience and turns it into not just a visual art form, it allows the actor and the viewer the experience to feel freely with inhibition- and in that moment we are all a little more alive.
