Ismael Calderón

I am an AmeriCorps VISTA Member supporting Success by 6 Program at United Way of Lake County in Gurnee, Illinois. My interests range from education to coffee. I am also interested in food, travel, and writing.

I am an International Affairs Professional with 4 years of experience in Administrative Support Specialist. I have worked on some academic projects and internationalization State programs such as Ondas Program - Administrative Department of Science, Technology and Innovation in Colombia, where I worked with low-income children from across the country and abroad developing their skills and talents in the STEM fields. Pontificia Javeriana and National University of Colombia and having received recognitions for my work.

Since then, I designed new database for efficiently archiving tasks and following children involved in scientific projects in Colombia and abroad, participating in the direct transfer of Ondas Program to other Latin America countries. In this role I was focused on learning new administrative and gestion skills and concerning bilateral relations and cooperation between states. Successes included students participating in International Science Fairs such a Peru, Paraguay, Bolivia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Angentina including "Intel ISEF International Science Fair 2012" in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Later experience includes 2 years of freelance work advising and assisting students on thesis selection and collaborating in a academic radio programs.

Colleagues know me as a highly creative communicator who can always be trusted to come up with a new approach and able to work in multicultural groups and rapid adaptation to new cultures. But I know that knowledge comes first, and I never try to impose my ideas on others. Instead, I spend time writing in my personal blog about international issues and reading for getting new knowledge about administrative and gestion strategies, foreign languages and cultures. I can work well alone, but I’m a good listener and collaborator with others
