Isobel Markham is a multimedia journalist based in New York. As a senior editor for the Americas at Private Equity International, she looks after private equity coverage in the Americas and edits the monthly print publication.

Isobel has twice been awarded the State Street UK Institutional Press award for Journalist of the Year – Alternatives.

Isobel previously worked as a freelance contributor for American Lawyer, covering legal issues surrounding the U.S. securities markets, and a freelance news-writer for Bustle, producing news stories that were SEO-optimized, content-rich and visually appealing while still prioritizing clear and accurate news coverage.

Isobel graduated with honors from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in May 2013. She specialised in magazine journalism and took classes in consumer journalism, sports journalism, magazine writing, audio storytelling, column writing and beat reporting. Her master’s project focused on head trauma in youth American football.

Isobel’s previous experience includes interning at ABC News Washington D.C. bureau, working on ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos, and a summer as the politics intern with The Salt Lake Tribune‘s Washington D.C bureau, producing the daily political newsletter, Political Cornflakes, and reporting on political issues affecting Utah.

Born and raised in the UK, Isobel graduated from the University of Leeds, UK, in 2010 with a first class honors degree in English literature and Russian. In 2011 Isobel moved to the U.S. to begin a Master’s in comparative literature at Dartmouth College, where her research focused on early twentieth-century Russian literature.

While at Dartmouth, Isobel was a general news reporter for the college’s independent, student-run newspaper, The Dartmouth, and weekly fashion columnist for its associated blog, Dartbeat.
