Israyl Burgher
Brooklyn, New York, native Israyl Burgher has performed as a reggae artist for the record label Oz Entertainment since 2005. The label features other area talent, including Jess James, Nora Symphony, WebbaFied, and True Knowledge. In addition to his work as an artist, singer-songwriter, and manager, Burgher also plays the drums. He hails from a musically oriented family; he took an interest in music at the age of 12 and is a self-taught musician. Born to a Jamaican father and an African-American mother, Israyl Burgher credits them with his musical influences. His songwriting style is very broad, ranging from roots-conscious lyrics to lovers rock, dancehall, R&B, and hip hop.
Israyl Burgher has released two albums, Substantial Teachings and Roots of King David. In addition, he released Roots & Rights, a compilation album that features the talents of Natty King, Iritikal Powers, and Warrior King. He has also been featured on both albums created by the manager of Oz Entertainment, Big Ox.
No stranger to live performances, Israyl Burgher has appeared in venues along the East Coast, including those in Philadelphia, Maryland, New York, and New Jersey. Israyl Burgher has delighted crowds at events including many music festivals in New York, Spotlight, the Tasmania Festival, and EOW, which is the longest-running open mic in the world. He has played with numerous well-known artists, such as Hyah Slice, Bushman, and Jay Electronica.
Israyl Burgher attended Clayton College of Natural Health, where he studied holistic health. He likes to incorporate concepts of his studies in his music, and he also seeks to help people feel better through providing them with uplifting tunes. His goal is to travel the world, play music, bring his message to places he has never seen, and to connect with new people.
