Ivan E Gillis
Ivan E. Gillis (1933-Present) was born at home on a farm in southeaster Iowa. He attended one room schools through the 8th grade. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1951 and attended Drake University for two years. After several dark years he entered Federal Civil Service (Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA) in 1968. Ivan started his federal career as a Journeyman Maintenance Machinist and retired 38 years later as the Public Works Superintendent. During that time he developed the syllabus and taught Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, and Electrical courses at Hartnell Community College in Salinas, CA. He also wrote and published a book, "How to Get a Federal Civil Service Job." During retirement he has developed and maintained a free website (www.e50plus.com) containing useful information on selecting a retirement home.
