Student, Artist, and server in Guelph, Ontario, Canada
Hi there! My name is Isabella, but now that we're acquainted you can call me Izzy. I’m a 21 year old fourth year student living and studying in Guelph, majoring in biology minoring in studio art. I was born and raised in Aurora Ontario but have been living in Guelph ever since I began my undergrad. I spend most of my free time engaging in some form of art; I am constantly bringing the images from my head to life in a variety of mediums. Other than art I am a huge fan of plants, animals and nature, which can be seen as a reoccurring muse in my work.
The fields of science that interest me the most are behaviour and conservation. I enjoy observing plants and animals, though lately that has consisted of stalking my cat and watching my Ivy perk up after a much needed watering. However, come my much anticipated graduation in April, I will be able to spend much more time outdoors observing and drawing the world around me. I enjoy these fields as I find it interesting to know why animals do what they do, and more importantly why my cat meows hysterically at 6 AM.
The woman who has always stood out to me above all would be the one and only Jane Goodall. Even though our fields of interest differ, her extraordinary sense of curiosity and outlook on the world as well as her passion for the environment and work in the Gombe has always made her someone to look up to. It is no surprise she is an idol to many young female scientists and will always hold a special place in my heart.
My current career goal is to be a tattoo artist. I tend to shock people a little bit when I let that cat out of the bag but it truly is my passion. It is the one thing I have always wanted to do but never thought I would be able to be successful at, then one day I miraculously discovered this thing called ‘believing in yourself’ and ever since then I’ve been doing everything I can to work towards my goal! I currently do custom tattoo designs for people as well as commissioned drawings for logos!
Something not a lot of people know about me is that I also am part of an artist collective called CHEEKY created by a fellow artist and I. We team up with other local artists and sell art at pop up markets around the city! I make stickers, buttons and traditional prints done using silkscreen, intaglio, woodblock and lithography. Printmaking is commonly seen as a dying art because ‘printers and Photoshop can do the same thing’ but i love it none the less and hope to continue doing it for the rest of my life.
